APIL has produced an article predicting that the number of personal injury claims will rise as the recesssion begins to bite. They predict the rise based upon the Citizen's Advice Bureau report entitled 'No Win No Chance' which found that, in 2004, just one third of eligible claimants actually went on to make a personal injury claim.
As the recession leads to job losses and lower pay, the damages awarded to claimants will become more attractive so that those previous marginal claimaints will now be more likely to seek compensation.
Simon Pinner, Director of Box Legal comments 'It is a simple case of relative values. Before the credit crunch, many people would not have bothered to make a claim for a minor whiplash injury which might be worth £1,000 or so because of the perceived hassle and time frame involved. Now however, those same victims may need the money and so will view the claim process as worthwhile.' |
