Government Minister Announces PI Reform Will Take Place
08/02/08

Further to our recent news story, Justice Minister Bridget Prentice has announced that the government's proposal for reform of the Personal Injury Market will now be ready towards the end of March.

Ms Prentice was responding to a parliamentary question raised by Conservative MP Henry Bellingham. She went on to announce that the Ministry of Justice would not be taking charge of referral fee policing as this was within the remit of the Solicitors' Regulation Authority. Ms Prentice defended the government's 6 month delay blaming the unexpectedly high number of responses they received to their original proposal.

This announcement comes as a surprise following the leaked Whitehall source which indicated that the proposal may be abandoned. It is believed however that the proposal document will be watered down to satisfy some of the organisations who made up the 300 replies the MoJ received to their original scheme.
