2004 and the future - and why kindness will never be dated

In case you haven’t noticed, Box Legal, is 20 this year.

I have been on my own sailing excursion with them for close to 14 years.

A lot has happened in that time.

The legal landscape has lifted and dropped in every way imaginable.  From Jackson in 2013, with banned commissions, claimants taking on the burden of the ATE premium and numerous firms sadly calling it a day, to COVID and the court delays, lack of work, furloughed staff and a new WFH culture.

We’ve watched it all and thankfully, are still here to tell the tale, with newly structured premiums, diversification into new areas and a continuing need for ATE insurance.

My own personal life has changed beyond recognition. I hit a wave train when faced with my worst nightmare leading to up-water tributaries that I hope are now moving into calmer streams.

In 2004 and just starting out in my marketing career I had no idea what the next 20 years would bring. I’m not sure I would have welcomed those years in every January 1st knowing what I do now.

On a positive note, joining Box Legal in 2010 is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I have watched the business grow and helped create an energetic, encouraging, and kind team.

There is plenty to be said for kindness in the workplace having read numerous blogs about bullying in the legal world.

Sadly, a toxic environment always seems to be somewhere – never quite falling out of fashion.

Working in that atmosphere once or twice over the past 20 plus years, I am determined, as are the rest of the team, that Box Legal will always provide a safe working environment with a transparent energy and, getting back to my water analogies, a work life similar to a steady, unruffled stream – with maybe a cascade or two pushing us along.

20 years of change, of good and bad and the very, very, ugly….. but with a hope that life is like a tide. It rises and then it falls – but always rises again. I am sure we will continue to see that in law, in the ATE market and in our own lives too. Happy Birthday Box Legal. Here’s to another 20 years….
