Welcome to the Autumnal Box Legal Newsletter!

Navigating the legal landscape can be challenging, especially when unexpected costs and risks arise after the event. That’s why we specialise in After The Event (ATE) insurance, providing peace of mind and financial protection when you need it most.

In this month’s first edition, we’ll share insights on the latest legal news which has impacted ATE insurance, as well as recent case law updates.

It's a fitting time for the distribution of this newsletter, as 2024 has been a year for change. We have said goodbye to one of our longest-standing team members and Directors, Jon Gouldsmith who has now left us for pastures new. We are sad to see him go but will keep in close touch with him in his new challenge. We have a new Associate Director. Linsey Carroll, who is promoted from within our highly experienced team and takes up Jon's mantle as a head of our legal team. We wish her every success in her new role.

Box Legal is 20 years old this year. We have a birthday party planned for November. We are proud to be a leading broker in the marketplace 20 years after Daniel and Simon produced their business plan for After the Event Insurance, and we are proud that we continue to thrive. Our party will be an opportunity to thank clients, contacts, friends, and family.

In the wider world, we have a new government and a new PM. One that we are hopeful will be sensitive to the need for "Access to Justice". Alongside that, we expect that this government will understand social housing, the importance of a habitable home for everyone, and of course, the need for moral responsibility.

This newsletter highlights the importance of ATE in protecting claimants in clinical negligence cases and draws attention to the Ministry of Defence’s current and future approach to military deafness claims. It comments on the frustration of thousands caused by delays in obtaining compensation for car finance mis-selling, and finally, it welcomes the court’s ruling on the status of ATE insurance premiums as a disbursement. We hope you enjoy reading this edition.

Have a wonderful Autumn and we wish you all continued happiness and success throughout 2024!
